Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt Week 6

So sorry it has been a while since we've checked in. I've had a few custom jobs weighing on me that really needed to get done as well as a craft camp to attend!

So at our craft camp I learnt the art of paper piecing. Something I wasn't sure how I'd go with. But I can honestly say that I am LOVING it. So here are some of the blocks from the book that I have paper pieced.

The secret to such a successful time can be contributed to my teacher at camp, so thank you Clare, and this awesome tool.

It's the add a quarter ruler that we have instock now and it is wonderful. A must for every foundation paper piecer out there.

FWSQ Week 5

I hope you all have been having fun with these little blocks.

For number 6 I used 3" thangles. I made 8 and then joined 2 HSTs together to make the quarter square blocks.

This is our first tiny square block. These 1" HSTs are ridiculously cute.

I had a bit of trouble getting this one. Let me know how you go.

#11 has used 1.5" thangles.

Have fun ladies

FWSQ Week 4

Wow, has it really been a month already? Time flies I guess when you are having fun.

For flock, you will be able to use your 3" and 1.5" thangles

And here is our second colour way that Colleen is doing.

Welcome to our newbies who have just started. Look out, these are so fun and you are about to become super addicted.  Happy stitching.

FWSQ Week 3

So I thought this week it might be nice to have a break from all those TRIANGLES in our farmers wife sampler quilt. Don't get me wrong, I love my thangles, but it was time to take a break.

If your blocks have been coming out a touch small, make sure you are using a scant 1/4". It will make a big difference over a few seams.

Colleens colours...

Happy Friday

FWSQ week 2

Our blocks we have been working on this week are

Yep, I know, my star spins in the opposite direction. Sometimes not every block needs to be 'by the book' 😊 or perhaps I need to read the book better. Ha ha either way I'm happy with my square so nothing's getting unpicked on it.

All of these blocks continue to use the 2" thangles as last week did.

Oh these last 3 blocks! Now we're getting into the smaller squares I am in love. These blocks use the same 2" thangles together with some cutie pie 4 patch blocks.

As you can see we have worked on more than our goal of 2 blocks per week. These little blocks become very addictive and sometimes it's hard to stop.

Check out this beautiful lady! Taking some time for herself during our Friday class, while I run the show, and getting stuck into the first 2 blocks of our week 1 blocks.

I am loving her fabrics from our Moda precuts!

Colleen has now raced ahead in her book and completed another 4 this week already.

Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt Sew along

Getting started!

BOOK!!!
Firstly to complete this quilt you are going to need the book. We will have info here to help you along the way but the book is a must. If you need a copy we have them available in our store located at 25 Marshall St Cobar NSW or we can arrange for a mail order to be sent to you by calling us on 0268 363606

FABRIC!!!
Although no exact requirements are given to complete your blocks there is requirements for the sashing, cornerstones, etc. I have asked quite a few people who have completed the quilt and  the feedback indicated that around 50 fat quarters will give you a good variety of fabrics throughout the quilt top and is adequate enough to complete the queen size quilt blocks.

THANGLES!!
In my opinion these are a must!!! It is a paper template that will help to avoid stretching of the bias edges when making half square triangles. There will be times when it is necessary to sew the bias edge but this will greatly reduce that number.

You will need a packet of 1", 1.5", 2" and 3" thangles.

This is a video demonstrating the use of
Thangles. Those here in Australia the RRP is $12.50 per packet and they too are available from our shop.

RULERS!
Although we will not be using any specific rulers for this project it is recommend that you invest in a 6 1/2" square ruler if you don't have one already. It is much easier to cut the small pieces, rather than maneuvering a large bulky ruler.

And that's pretty much it to get you started. A nice new blade in your cutter and quick un pick at the ready and it's time to get busy. I'll see you Friday with our first block.
