New Year and New Blocks

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope that you've had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed a short break from the 9 to 5.

I am so excited to share some of the photos from our newest Block Of the Month we are offering. It is Fancy Forest by Elizabeth Hartman and we are offering it as a Fabric Only BOM. Never fear though, we do have the book/pattern for Sale over in our Shop.

Month 1 is the Fox blocks. You will receive the background, black and white fabrics for all 16 Fox blocks and the fabrics from Group A to complete 2 Fox blocks.

Month 2 you will receive all the other colours from Groups B - H to make the remaining 14 Foxes. Don't they look gorgeous?!

Month 3 and 4 you will be working on the Hazel Hedgehog blocks.

Month 5 and 6 will be the Bunny Blocks.

Month 7 and 8 are the Allie Owl blocks.

Month 9 and 10 are the Firefly blocks. This has been my most favourite block of the whole quilt. Love Love Love

In the final month 11 you will make the Thistle blocks and receive the final fabrics for sashing and binding. I have only just begun the Thistle Blocks but will have a photo to add soon I hope, so that I can put them all together to finish this gorgeous quilt.

You are able to purchase this Quilt Kit as a full kit, or you can purchase it as a BOM program. It's no worries if you already own the pattern as our kits are provided Fabric Only. The book is available to purchase on our website seperately.

Playing with Angels Part 1

I am so excited to be doing this BOM. We have had it on offer here at Cobar Quilt Shop for quite some time and I actually started it about 12 months ago when we made our first kit up, but I just hadn't had time to get it all finished. But since finishing the Toytime Circus BOM a couple of weeks ago, I have been tracing like a mad woman preparing all my blocks to begin sewing. I do not have girls but boy if I did... this would be the centre piece of her room! I LOVE this quilt, and I'm not even at the Ta-Da stage yet.
More blocks with no eyes... we'll just have to exercise that imagination again.

This is the PLAY block all finished. I am going to be quilting this quilt myself as well, so keep an eye out for that when the time comes!
Now there was no way that I could leave PLAY feeling all alone on the pile of finished blocks so I decided to give her a friend and got up REEEAALLY early today and did another one! It is very addictive and I couldn't tell you how many I will have for my post next Wednesday, maybe 1, maybe 2, who knows it could very well be the next 4! It just goes to show you that these quilts can take you a whole 12 months to do or they can be done in a matter of weeks (for some I could imagine it may be only days...) For anyone intereseted in signing up to the really sweet girls quilt please contact us on the information above or pop over here to our store.

Happy Thursday everyone. A great day to start something new!

Toytime Circus

I must admit that I did actually finish this quilt a couple days after my last post but had given it back to colleen without taking a picture first. I guess I was just so excited that I forgot. So today I grabbed it back before she sent it off to the Quilter and snapped a couple of shots.
Firstly there was that last block, you know the one... with all 'those' letters! I have to say that it really wasn't that bad. I ploughed through them surprisingly quick. You will have to imagine the eyes on the ringmaster and his wagon of friends though, as I can't sew them on until the Quilter has done her magic.
It was very bright outside when I took these pictures and as such has shown the fabrics to be a little lighter than what they actually are. Luckily I had snapped pics of them all as I went and you can click back to see each block up close. Well I guess this is it for Toytime Circus. I have had alot of fun creating this masterpiece and hope that you have enjoyed it with me.
Don't forget to leave a comment with a link to your BOM progress so I can check you out too!

Toytime Circus

Wow, time flies so fast! I have been very busy this past week finishing off ALL of the outer blocks. That's right, I'm up to the last block, the big one in the centre, with all those letters. I love doing all the animals but the letters require so much turning. It is not my most favourite part but as soon as I am past those rascally letters... it will be a quick (but accurate) tidy up of all the blocks and piece the whole beautiful thing together! I am so excited and I hope that my next post will have a final quilt top to show, if not it will be just one more week away!

Block 6
Block 2

Block 1
Awww they are so cute! Just a reminder that the kit that you would buy from our store over here, includes all the fabrics you see here. I stole (ha ha ha) 1 of the pre-cut kits, so what you see, is exactly what you'll get!

If you're working on one of our BOM why not leave a comment with a link to your progress. I would LOVE to see what you're up to. Until next Wednesday...

Happy Sewing

Toytime Circus

Hello again everyone,

Can you believe that it has been a whole week already? Time has flown, I guess that's easy to do when you have a Christmas holiday inbetween. I hope that you enjoyed Christmas and plan for a Happy New Year!

Again, not in any particular order, but here is block 3. It also took me 3 hours to complete from start to finish.

My pictures are a little poor this week, due to a flat battery on my regular camera. But who could wait until it was charged. I just finished the eyes on these blocks and had to get them up for you to see. Did you pick up on that then... blockS! That's right I have another block for you this week...

Block 4

Only 4 more blocks to go and I will be ready to piece the quilt top! This is a fantastic quilt for a first timer, because of it's large easy to applique pieces and also because it only has 7 blocks (plus borders), so it is something that can be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time. This is so exciting for me though because this is the fourth BOM program that I have started and looks like it will be the SECOND that I have actually finished. Are you like me and start a new BOM every other week? Well maybe not every week, that might be a bit of an exageration, even for me. But I will admit it is really nice to have a little variety when I sit to sew.

Happy sewing.

Toytime Circus

Hi, I'm Sarah and I am going to be doing the Toytime Circus BOM for Colleen (Mummy) at the Cobar Quilt Shop. She has numerous BOM programs that she runs and you can see what is available here. Traditionally in Block-Of-the-Month (BOM) program you will be sent 1 block per month however we are able to tailor a program to suit you, for example if you require 2 blocks per month we can arrange a payment plan for that too. I will be powering through these BOM's though just to get the shop sample finished, hopefully 1 a week, so that I can start the next one (BOM) of course. *BIG smile*

The Toytime Circus BOM is a Kookaburra cottage pattern that Colleen has precut fabrics into fabric packs to be sent out to our customers each month. It can be purchased from the on-line store here, or by calling the store on (02) 6836 3606.

Now to the fun part...

This is actually Block 5, but who says that everything needs to be done in order?

These penguins are so darn cute!

I have done the applique on my sewing machine, simply because if I had to do it by hand then it would be done in, oh I don't know, maybe 20 years! The eyes I found to be a little small for the applique stitch so I did a small satin stitch to hold them in place. I like to use a thin pellon behind my work for extra stabiliser, but I have also used 'tear away' on other projects. The pellon makes my project much softer and easier to manovour under my machine as apposed to the tear away which is a bit stiffer but a much more economical option that can also very time consuming when it comes time to tear away all the excess. This block took me almost 3 hours to go from fabric pack to finished.

For the people who would like to join me in this BOM here is a button that you can add to your sidebar to let everyone else know that you are addicted. Here's how:
